Awang Damit Ahmad

Awang Damit Ahmad was born in Kuala Penyu, Sabah in 1956. He studied fine art at UITM (School of Art and Design of ITM) and was chosen as the best student in 1983. He furthered his studies in painting at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC in 1988 and was awarded a Master's Degree in Fine Art in 1990. Awang now lectures in fine art at UITM. He has held positions as the Curator of the Art Gallery and Head of the Fine Arts Department before being appointed an Associate Professor in 2000

LAHIR : 20 Ogos 1938 di Seremban, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus.

Anak kepada bekas syeikh haji ini awal-awal lagi telah memperlihatkan bakat seninya.  Sewaktu berumur sembilan tahun, beliau telah pun mencipta beberapa lukisan cat minyak.  Pada awal tahun 1960-an, Latiff telah menunjukkan pula kebolehan yang lain, iaitu menulis puisi.

Latiff menerima pendidikan awalnya dari Sekolah Melayu Lenggeng hingga lulus darjah IV.  Sesudah itu, Latiff menyambung pelajarannya di Sekolah Melayu Kota Raja dan Mercantile Institution, Singapura.  Kemudian pada tahun 1954, beliau kembali ke Seremban dan belajar di Sekolah King George V dengan biasiswa kerajaan negeri, hinggalah lulus School Certificate pada tahun 1959. Pertengahan tahun 1960, Latiff meninggalkan tanah air untuk menuntut di Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin, Jerman selama empat tahun dengan biaya pemerintah Republik Persekutuan Jerman.

Sehingga tahun 1971, Latiff cukup banyak mengembara sambil memperluas pengalaman dan mencipta pelbagai bentuk seni terutamanya seni lukis.  Hasil ciptaannya telah dipamerkan dari semasa ke semasa sama ada pameran secara perseorangan ataupun bersama, baik di dalam mahupun di luar negeri.  Sewaktu belajar di Berlin, Latiff sempat melawat seluruh Eropah Barat dan selepas itu ke beberapa buah negara Asia Tenggara.  Dalam tahun 1969, Latiff mendapat hadiah (grant) dari Kementerian Kebudayaan Perancis untuk mengikuti kursus seni goresan di Atelier La Courrier, Paris dan kemudian ditawarkan pula Biasiswa Rockefeller untuk meneruskan kursus yang sama di Pratt Graphic Centre, New York, Amerika Syarikat yang diakhiri dengan lawatan seni sekeliling dunia.

The owner of the Ibrahim Hussein Museum And Culture Foundation in Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah, he was the founder of the Langkawi International Festival Of Art.

Ibrahim was the younger brother of literary giants Datuk Abdullah Hussein and Tan Sri Ismail Hussein.

Born on March 13, 1936 in Yan, Kedah, he received his early education in Singapore's Nanyang Arts Academy, and London's Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Printing and the Royal Academy.

Leonardo da Vinci Biography

Full Name: Mr. Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci Date of Birth: April 15, 1452 Place of Birth: Anchiano, Tuscany, Italy Died: May 2, 1519 Place of Death:Clos luce, France Known to have carried the Mona Lisa painting with him everywhere he went until it was finished, Leonardo da Vinci was to become one of the world’s most renowned painters, sculptors, inventors, philosophers, architects and brilliant thinkers of his time. While his sketches and notebooks reveal a great about his own life, a self-portrait entitled Portrait in Red Chalk and a biography written by Giorgio Vasari are all that remain of this man who was most definitely ahead of his time. Born near Vinci, Leonardo grew up in Florence where he began sketching, drawing, and eventually painting. At age fourteen, Leonardo began an apprenticeship with Andrea del Verrocchio. However, his work was so admired that he was soon employed by the Duke of Milan from circa 1480 to 1500. Under the duke, Leonardo was to construct a huge bronze horse statue called Gran Cavallo. But, as the French soon attacked the city, the bronze had to be used for weaponry. Vincent van Gogh- Artis hebat luar negara

Vincent van Gogh (March 30, 1853 - July 29, 1890) is generally considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt, though he had little success during his lifetime. Van Gogh produced all of his work (some 900 paintings and 1100 drawings) during a period of only 10 years before he succumbed to mental illness (possibly bipolar disorder) and committed suicide. His fame grew rapidly after his death especially following a showing of 71 of van Gogh's paintings in Paris on March 17, 1901 (11 years after his death).

(Properly the name rhymes with loch, but it is also pronounced 'goph', 'go' and 'goe'.)

Van Gogh's influence on expressionism, fauvism and early abstraction was enormous, and can be seen in many other aspects of 20th-century art. The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is dedicated to Van Gogh's work and that of his contemporaries.

Several paintings by Van Gogh rank among the most expensive paintings in the world. On March 30, 1987 Van Gogh's painting Irises was sold for a record $53.9 million at Southeby's, New York. On May 15, 1990 his Portrait of Doctor Gachet was sold for $82.5 million at Christie's, thus establishing a new price record.
